We Tried 4 Oat Milks For Your Matcha Latte So You Don't Have To

If you have ever made a matcha latte at home and it tasted a bit off, your matcha might not be the problem. The oat milk probably is.

We tested four oat milks specifically for cold matcha lattes. We used a handheld frother and mixed each one straight into matcha. No heat, no special technique. Here is what we found.

Alpro Oat Milk

Honestly, it tasted too watery for us. It didn't seem to complement our matcha.

Alpro This is Not Milk

Thicker than the Alpro oat milk which felt promising, but we noticed a strong oat aftertaste with no real creaminess to balance it out. The aftertaste ended up being more prominent than the matcha itself.

Migros V-Love Oat Milk Barista Bio

Better than the first two. The oat taste is slightly overpowering but mild enough that the matcha still comes through. A decent budget friendly option.

Oatly Barista

The clear winner. The most balanced and harmonious of the four, it does not fight the matcha, it just lets it be what it is. This is the one we use and the one we would tell a friend to buy.

We tested these strictly for cold matcha lattes. How they taste on their own or in coffee is a whole other story.

At the end of the day, good oat milk should stay out of the way and let your matcha do the talking. Oatly Barista does that well.
